Hormone levels

With the co-operation of our laboratory, Synlab, we conducted a clinical trial from January to June 2012 in which the interaction within the hormone network of the body was studied. Because of the great interest of many patients we were able to collect a lot of results and increase the valuable store of our experience in this subject.

For many chronic diseases and states of exhaustion, an examination of the levels of the thyroid hormones (TSH, free T3, free T4) and vitamin D (which is actually a hormone) is necessary.

For many women’s health problems such as menstrual disturbances, pre-menstrual syndrome (PMS), pre- and post-menopausal symptoms, a blood or saliva test for the relevant hormones is recommended. The most important female hormones are Estradiol, Progesterone, FSH and LH. Women who have regular menstruation should have the blood sample taken on a day between the 19th to 23rd day of the cycle.

Depending on the clinical question (also regarding male patients), Testosterone, DHEA, Cortisol (at 8 a.m.) levels would be examined in addition.

In the case of overweight suggesting insulin resistance, a fasting blood sample would be taken at 8 a.m. for glucose and insulin. From these values the HOMA score can be calculated, which is a parameter for diabetes and insulin resistance.
